Visitors to New Zealand love to experience our many outstanding walks and outdoor activities. Here's some great tips on how to stay safe and prepare well.

Outdoor Safety | Plan Your Trip - 1

Unfortunately, many have fallen victim to New Zealand's great outdoors. Preparing properly for any excursion is paramount to your safety and ability to survive in adverse events. The Mountain Safety Council of New Zealand are experts in helping you get the best out of your adventure in a safe, well informed and enjoyable way.

Before setting out on any outdoor excursion, please see the Outdoor Safety Code.

Use this easy tool to plan your trip.

Avalanche Advisories are available for mountaineers and back country snow sports. Always check conditions before you head out and make sure you have prepared for your excursion appropriately.

Personal Locator Beacons are available for hire New Zealand wide and we recommend you take one of these little lifesavers with you. With direct satellite links, you will be located efficiently in the event of an emergency.

The Department of Conservation regularly update conditions in our National Parks. Always check for alerts and important notices prior to setting out.

New Zealand offers a unique and exceptional opportunity to experience wildlife, native forests and amazing alpine landscapes. Preparing adequately for your trip will ensure a pleasurable and memorable journey.
