With spectacular views, calm waters and plenty of activity options, Tahunanui Beach gifts travellers a fabulous holiday feel right beside the beautiful city of Nelson.
Nestled on the shores of Tasman Bay, Tahunanui Beach is frequented by locals and travellers alike. The quirky playground is a delight for children and includes outdoor musical instruments where creativity abounds. Haphazard tunes are banged out on the xylophone as wee one’s dance to their own beat. A seriously twisted tree doubles as a jungle gym while others ride the huge concrete whale. Imaginations unfold as caregivers oversee happy antics.
Plenty of parking for all sizes of vehicles makes it easy for campervanners to alight and take in a beach walk, quiet cuppa, or unload their bikes and have a leisurely ride. Rope lined boardwalks lead to a sweeping beach where you could lose all semblance of time wandering the shoreline. Calm waters make swimming a pleasure for folk of all ages. Sea kayakers and stand up paddleboarders dot the seascape against a fantastic mountain backdrop.
There’s a huge selection of other facilities available including;
• Skate Park
• Bumper Boats
• BMX Track
• Tennis Courts
• Model Railway
• Mini Golf
Tahunanui Beach is subject to dune preservation. Please take care and use the boardwalks to enable the preservation of flora & fauna. Changing rooms & toilet facilities are clean and tidy. You’ll find them next to the beach café.
Tahunanui offers several restaurants, bars & convenience stores and is a destination in its own right. Motels dot the main road and are all within walking distance to the beach. If you want to travel further afield to explore Nelson City or Richmond, the local bus service (NBus) is very affordable and easy to use.
Summertime brings several events to the beachfront. Beach volleyball is a regular activity and Paddlefest will be held during Labour Weekend 2019 when stand up paddle boarders, waka-ama & surf skiers take part in competition.
No matter what time of year you visit, Tahunanui is always a delight. Tranquil, picturesque, alluring and calm, this natural gem in Nelson's crown is truly engaging.
